Can your Burberry trench successfully weather the most tumultuous of storms? If the brand’s holiday 2016 campaign serves as any indicator, anything from the English fashion house is built to last a lifetime.
Starring award-winning actors like Sienna Miller, Domhnall Gleeson, and Lily James, the expertly styled campaign comes to life in a video that whisks us back to the early 20th century. Dubbed The Tale of Thomas Burberry, the film shows key actors taking on iconic roles that represent the brand’s greatest successes. In the trailer for the fictional flick (above), Gleeson stars as the brand’s founder, Thomas Burberry, who takes us through a whirlwind of events.
Miller, Gleeson’s onscreen love and gorgeous ingénue, dazzles in of-era dresses, while Dominic West portrays Sir Ernest Shackleton and Lily James takes on the role of pilot Betty Dawson—two famous historical figures that respectively wore Burberry while accomplishing their epic feats. In addition to acting that, quite honestly, looks like it belongs in a real Burberry biopic, the video pans across scenic imagery from Shirburn Castle in Oxfordshire, England, where director Asif Kapadia shot the minutes-long clip.
Additionally, the campaign video, written by Matt Charman, includes custom Burberry pieces that take on items from the brand’s archive (think the Heritage Trench Coat and Bridle Bag). “This Christmas, as we celebrate our 160th anniversary, we wanted to tell the story of Thomas Burberry—pioneer, inventor, innovator, and the man behind the iconic trench coat—in our words,” Christopher Bailey, Burberry chief creative and chief executive officer, said in a statement.
